Clip-in tiles, hook-on panels, baffles and facade cassettes — perforated at density, folded with clean dead edges, and handled without touching the coating.

What equipment does a metal ceiling or architectural panel factory need?

Architectural panels are the one part of sheet metal where aluminium is the primary material, and that changes the equipment logic. STON panel benders and folding machines handle aluminium up to 2.5 mm — the highest of the three material limits — which covers ceiling tiles at 0.5 to 0.8 mm and facade cassettes at 2.0 to 2.5 mm in the same cell.

Two operations dominate. 음향 천공 puts thousands of holes into a tile face, which is turret punch work rather than laser work: a punch multi-hits and nibbles a repeating pattern in a fraction of the time a laser needs to pierce each hole. Edge forming gives the panel its clip, hook or cassette return, which usually means a hemmed dead edge, an offset, or an arc — the three special processes a flexible edge folding machine performs and a press brake does not do cleanly.

STON CNC (Qingdao Ston Mechanical Technology Co., Ltd.) is a Chinese original manufacturer of CNC panel benders and turret punch presses, founded in 2006 in Qingdao, China. All equipment described here is built inside STON CNC's own 20,000㎡ factory, from casting and heat treatment through machining, assembly and inspection. Machines carry ISO 9001 quality certification and CE marking under Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, and are exported to more than 80 countries. 인증 및 특허 보기 →

    The parts we build for

Ceiling systems and facade panels from the same cell

Ceiling and cladding products share a manufacturing profile: coated aluminium or steel, dense repeating perforation, and a folded perimeter whose accuracy decides whether the panel clips into the grid.

Lay-in tilesFlat with a shallow flange

Corner and edge trimsSmall profiles, high volume
Access and service panelsCut-outs plus formed frame
    Where architectural panel production bottlenecks

Three problems specific to ceilings and cladding

    01

Acoustic perforation on a laser is the wrong economics

An acoustic tile can carry several thousand holes. A fiber laser pierces each one individually, so cycle time scales with hole count and the tile becomes the constraint for the whole shop. A turret punch multi-hits and nibbles the pattern with standard tooling, largely decoupling cycle time from hole count.

    02

The clip is a tolerance problem, not a bending problem

A ceiling tile that will not clip into the grid is scrap, and the tolerance that decides it is the folded return — often only 4 to 10 mm high. Minimum bending height of 4 mm on a folding machine and angle accuracy of roughly ±0.5°/m are what keep an entire batch installable.

    03

PVDF and anodised finishes cannot be reworked

Architectural coatings are specified by the architect and matched across a whole building. A scratched panel is not repainted, it is remade. Patented 360° rotating suction feeding moves the blank in the air, and protective film can stay on through forming.

    Recommended configuration

Three ways to build the cell, by perforation load

Size the punching capacity against your acoustic products, not your plain ones. Perforated tiles are where the hours go.

    Entry cell

Plain tiles and baffles, limited perforation
    • Flexible edge folding machine, 1200 or 1600
    • Dead edge, offset and arc for clip and hook returns
    • Fiber laser blanking, no tooling required
    • Aluminium to 2.5 mm, coated steel to 1.5 mm
    • Suction cup feeding, protective film retained
    Most ceiling manufacturers

    Acoustic panel cell

    Perforated ceilings in volume
    • SF series servo CNC turret punch press, 40 rpm turret
    • Multi-tool stations for repeating perforation patterns
    • Flexible edge folding machine 1600 or 2000
    • Panel bender for deeper cassette returns
    • Brush and steel-ball composite table for coated sheet
    • Automatic loading, unloading and stacking

    Integrated line

    Standardised ceiling ranges at scale
    • Coil or sheet blanking with intelligent nesting
    • Punch-laser combined machine for mixed pattern and contour
    • Automatic folding with program switching by tile size
    • Stacking and interleaving without face contact
    • Unified control, process interlock, data traceability
    • Layout drawn against your existing building

What these machines can and cannot form

Aluminium is where this cell has the most headroom. The constraint to check is panel size at the long end and folded height at the short end.

    Right fit

Perforated and plain ceiling tiles, hook-on panels, baffles and facade cassettes in coated aluminium or steel, with folded clip, hook or return edges. Aluminium to 2.5 mm gives this sector more headroom than any other.

    Wrong fit

Extruded carrier profiles, roll-formed grid tees and runners, and stretched or curved-formed panels. Suspension grid components in particular are a separate industry and STON does not supply them.

    Keep a press brake

Deep cassette returns beyond the folding machine range, heavy structural brackets and one-off architectural specials. A press brake alongside the cell covers these without disrupting the volume work.

Standards this equipment is built and guarded to

Risk assessment follows EN ISO 12100; safety-related control functions such as light-curtain interruption and emergency stop are specified to EN ISO 13849-1. Hydraulic press brakes supplied into the EU are built against EN 12622. Machines placed on the EU market carry CE marking under Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC with the accompanying technical file. Quality management is certified to ISO 9001, and machined structural tolerances follow ISO 2768. For the finished product, EN 13964 covers suspended ceilings and EN 14782 covers self-supporting metal sheet for cladding and lining. These are product standards for your panel, not machine standards — what the equipment contributes is the dimensional consistency that lets a whole ceiling batch install without selection.

On the machines this means fully enclosed rear fencing, protective covers on all protruding moving parts, laser guarding that halts motion when the protected zone is broken, over-tonnage protection on turret punch presses, and grating-ruler offset-load detection on panel benders.

    Choosing the process

Turret punch, laser or folding machine — which does what?

Architectural panel production splits neatly across three machines, and the split is decided by hole density and edge geometry.

Support that stays with the line

Architectural projects run to fit-out programmes with no float. A batch of tiles that will not clip into the grid stops a ceiling crew, so consistency and support response matter more than headline speed.

Questions we get from ceiling and cladding manufacturers

    Frequently asked questions

Should acoustic perforation be punched or laser cut?
Punched, in almost every case. A laser pierces each hole individually, so an acoustic tile with several thousand holes becomes the slowest part in the shop. A turret punch uses multi-tool stations and nibbling, so cycle time is largely decoupled from hole count, and it performs corner notching and service cut-outs in the same clamping. Keep the laser for cassette contours, architectural specials and short runs that do not justify tooling.
Can you form 2.5 mm aluminium facade cassettes?
Yes — aluminium up to 2.5 mm is within the forming window on both panel benders and folding machines, and it is the highest of the three material limits. The constraint to check is return depth rather than thickness: a folding machine reaches 100 mm bending height, a panel bender 170, 300 or 400 mm by configuration. Send a cassette section drawing and we will confirm which machine suits.
How accurate does a clip-in return need to be, and can you hold it?
Clip returns are often only 4 to 10 mm high, and a tile that will not seat in the grid is scrap. Minimum bending height is 4 mm on a folding machine and 5 mm on a panel bender, with angle accuracy of approximately ±0.5° per metre and straightness around 0.2 mm per metre. On a 600 mm tile that is comfortably inside what a grid system tolerates.
Will the machines mark PVDF, anodised or powder-coated surfaces?
Feeding is by suction cup with a patented 360° rotating mechanism, so the blank is moved in the air rather than dragged across a table, and protective film can remain in place through forming. On the punching side the brush and steel-ball composite table can be configured as pure bristle brush where panels are coated before punching, with stainless-steel table edging that resists scoring.
Can you supply the suspension grid as well?
No. Grid tees, runners and carrier profiles are roll-formed or extruded products from a separate industry, and STON CNC does not supply roll-forming or extrusion lines. The cell described here equips the panel side of a ceiling factory, which is where the perforation load, the folding accuracy and the coating scrap actually are.
How much does a ceiling panel production cell cost?
There is no list price, because the cell is configured to your product range. Five factors move the figure most: punching specification (servo turret at 40 rpm versus mechanical, plus the multi-tool package for your perforation patterns), folding machine size from 1200 to 2000 mm, whether a panel bender is added for deep cassette returns, automation level (manual, automatic loading, or full stacking), and scope — whether laser blanking or a coil line is included. A folding machine alone and a full punch-and-fold line differ by roughly an order of magnitude. Send an acoustic tile drawing with the hole pattern and we return a configured quotation and a realistic cycle time within 24 hours.
We make both ceilings and facade panels. One cell or two?
Usually one, because the material window overlaps: ceiling tiles at 0.5–0.8 mm and cassettes at 2.0–2.5 mm aluminium are both inside the same machines. The split is by edge geometry, not by product — shallow clip returns go to the folding machine, deep cassette returns to a panel bender. We map your part families across both at drawing review.
What power and air supply is required?
Can the machines be supplied to Turkey, Mexico, Russia or Southeast Asia?
